German and Brazilian partners met at the Institute of Astronomy, Geophysics and Atmospheric Sciences (IAG) of the University of São Paulo (USP) in Brazil, on 20-22 August 2018, for the project’s first workshop. Several talks were given to present the state of the art in regional climate, air pollution and vulnerability studies in São Paulo, giving the basis for the discussions that took place. Participants also discussed potential areas for interdisciplinary case studies in São Paulo, as well a mapping of stakeholders involved in air quality issues in the city. Strategic discussions for a joint German-Brazilian Institute on urbanisation also happened, with views for long term partnerships and activities. The workshop finished with a tour to Pico do Jaraguá, the highest point of São Paulo, where there is also a weather and air quality monitoring station.
